The Munro 1 is a new and an entirely battery-powered, all-terrain, no nonsense 4x4 developed very much to be a tough workhorse, filling a vital gap in the electric vehicle market.
The Munro 1 has a single electric motor putting out 371 hp and 516 lb/ft (700Nm) that sends power to all four wheels through Defender solid axles. The vehicle is largely based on another off-roader called the Ibex (also listed on this site) and Munro Vehicles has re-engineered that vehicle to accommodate its own electric powertrain.
Battery capacity is 80.1 kwh and, according to Munro Vehicles, it is capable of achieving 168 miles (270 km) on one charge with on-road usage and that it will have fast charging capability. The design of the vehicle’s interior is very basic, although it does get selectable high and low ranges courtesy of its conventional driveline. It will be able to travel through up to 3 feet of water and boasts a offers a one-tonne payload.
The monocoque architecture is built using the latest construction techniques, while the chassis has been modified to include a dedicated structure to house the batteries. The folded aluminium panels are riveted and bonded to the framework to prevent electrolytic corrosion, extending the life of the vehicle.
Limited production is due to start in 2023.
